If you look at any Riverwoods publication, you’ll see the familiar map of the Fox River Valley with the “black dots” that represent the locations of 15 primary housing communities that we serve. Why do we print this map on everything? It’s because this map truly represents the heart of Riverwoods ministry. For over 30 years, Riverwoods has been serving public and subsidized housing communities of the Fox River Valley.
Over the last three decades, our passion has been to serve the children and families from these communities throughout the year and to see the youth and families enter into a life-transforming relationship with Jesus Christ. Through the years, God has used the unique combination of the summer programs at our facility and the year-round Community Advocacy Ministry to touch the hearts and lives of thousands of youth and families.
The key to the impact that God is making in our communities is the partnership between our Community Advocates and the local church, who work together to minister to our families. Over the past few years, it has been very exciting to watch Advocacy grow from four to five to seven and now eight communities! Yes, I am thrilled to announce that we have just completed the full funding commitments for the eighth Advocate Community.
In early 2010, our eighth full-time Community Advocate will be placed in Aurora. Serving families in the housing communities throughout the Fox River Valley is what Riverwoods is all about. We rejoice in God’s continuous provision to serve more youth and families year-round than any time in Riverwoods history!
